US authorities are set to ban a range of electronic devices from being taken onboard

Devices such as laptops, tablets, cameras and DVD players will be banned from the cabins of flights being operated by nine airlines operating from 10 airports, including Cairo, Istanbul, Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

According to media reports in the US, the move is being made due to intelligence gathered overseas.

Mobile phones and medical devices will also be exempt from the ban, which is expected to be formally announced by the Department of Homeland Security in the US on Tuesday March 21.

Royal Jordanian Airlines posted a tweet on Monday saying it would ban passengers from taking most electronic devices onboard its flights to and from the US. But this message was later deleted.
